Teachers in Attendance:
1. Mrs. Marlene Lao (Science Department Head)
2. Mr. Darwin Lumosbog (Science Coordinator-Campus B)
3. Mr. Jonathan Canillo (Physics Teacher)
The attendance of students was so unexpected. Many of them registered only in day 1 (Sept 18). Anyhow, they were all grouped equally with their very able facilitators, whom they called "Ates" and "Kuyas". After they were grouped into sub-camps, the campers got their first challenge, that was banner making. They settled anywhere in the campus to creatively present their banners. Early on, they were advised to prepare yells for their sub-camps. The winner was the team violet.
Then the campers took their dinner at around 7 pm and got their candidates for Ms. Science Camp 2009 ready for the pageant night. The contest was both beauty and talent and fund raising. The winner was Ms. Jennywee Basister of IV - Rizal. The students were so supportive of their candidates. The night was finalized with a bonfire. Then the campers took their rest, to get themselves ready for tomorrow's (Sept 19) activities.
After some routines, the first activity was "egg game". The participants were told to "break their wrapped eggs" suspended on a string between their legs. The science in the game was, the greater the speed they gave, the greater the momentum, the greater the impact, the easier for their eggs to break! The winners were awarded right after the game.
The next was "water relay". Each team had to fill a container with water within 3 minutes using only a spoon. Right balance, great speed and extra care were needed to win such a game. It was so thrilling somewhere at the last seconds since three teams were almost the same in volume of water collected. In the end, only one was proclaimed winner.
"Bring me something!" followed. At first, it was easy for the campers to look for the asked objects. Later, they were taking time as things such as "bryophytes, angiosperms, metals with +3 oxidation number..." were required. On the whole, it was such a learning experience. Then they took a break with a heavy hamburger snack with apple juice.
Then, the sub-camps sent their contestants for the quiz show. At the start, the students were so reluctant. They thought the questions would be so difficult. Then the contest started as soon as the list was completed. Each contestant was told to yell the color of their group if they would answer. The one who got right made a step forward. There were 5 steps. In the beginning of the show, three of the candidates were on the first ladder. Then others also made their forward steps as they too got correct answers. It took 15 questions to turn out a winner. He was Rainier Mesia of III - SPED.
There would have been more activities by the afternoon. But the rain was really strong so, the organizers decided to call it a day. After the campers got their final snacks, they call it "home sweet home".
